God Made You Gifted

Discovering Your God-Given Gifts

In today's sermon, we explored the concept of being gifted by God. The message was clear: every one of us is uniquely gifted by God, and these gifts are meant to be used for His glory and to serve others. This summary will break down the key points of the sermon, making it easy to understand and apply to your life.

The Hierarchy of Gifts in Society

Many of us remember the "gifted program" in school, where students were categorized based on their perceived abilities. This societal hierarchy can make us feel like some people are inherently more special or talented than others. However, this is not how God operates.

God's Gifted Program

God has made each of us gifted. Unlike the world's tiered system, God's kingdom does not operate on a hierarchy. Every person is made in the image of God and has been given unique gifts. This is a fundamental truth that we must embrace.

Types of Gifts from God

God distributes two main types of gifts: natural gifts and spiritual gifts.

Natural Gifts

Natural gifts are abilities and talents given to everyone, regardless of their faith. These gifts come from God and are meant to be used for good. James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

Spiritual Gifts

Spiritual gifts are given to those who have a relationship with Jesus Christ. These gifts are meant to serve others and build up the body of Christ. 1 Peter 4:10 says, "God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another."

Categories of Spiritual Gifts

Spiritual gifts can be categorized into three main types: communication gifts, revelation gifts, and action gifts.

Communication Gifts

These include speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues, encouragement, and teaching. These gifts involve verbal communication and are meant to edify and build up others.

Revelation Gifts

Revelation gifts include words of wisdom, words of knowledge, prophecy, and discerning of spirits. These gifts involve receiving and sharing knowledge that comes directly from God.

Action Gifts

Action gifts include faith, healings, miracles, mercy, giving, and leadership. These gifts motivate and empower us to take action and serve others in tangible ways.

How to Discover Your Gifts

To discover your spiritual gifts, you can take a spiritual gifts test, such as the one offered in the "Discover" course at HopeX. This assessment will help you identify the gifts God has placed inside you.

Life Application

Stirring Up Your Gifts

2 Timothy 1:6-7 encourages us to "fan into flames the spiritual gift that God gave you." This means actively using and developing the gifts God has given us.

Acknowledge and Accept Your Gifts

Humility does not require you to minimize or dismiss your gifts. Accepting and using your gifts is a way to honor God.

Refuse to Neglect Your Gifts

There will be seasons when you may be tempted to suppress your gifts. Resist this urge and continue to use your gifts for God's glory.

Faithfully Steward Your Gifts

Use your gifts to serve others and be a faithful steward of the grace God has given you. The more you use your gifts, the more you will grow in them.
